Correction - Interior Renovation Requires a Building Permit - Not BAR Approval

Dear Residents, Many of you know this because you have completed beautiful projects after applying for a building permit and completing the board approval process in Tuxedo Park or other municipalities in NYS.

I can share that interior renovation, construction, and some remodeling require a building permit for those new or unaware of the process. Interior work does not require BAR or Board approval.*

The state and local building laws require formal inspections by the building inspector during construction to approve the work for fire safety, structural integrity, electrical installation, wiring safety, plumbing installation and safety, and more.

If you are planning or have started remodeling and have not received a building permit, please call Village Building Inspector John Ledwith. He will work with you and all parties involved to help you with the process. Longer-term construction schedules and multiple trades and vendors on-site usually point to projects that require a permit.

Working with the Building Inspector is a better alternative than having construction interrupted with a Stop Work Order or Court Appearance Ticket.
