Community Choice Aggregation Program

This work began in June of 2020 when your BOT passed a resolution to seek certification as a Climate Smart Community (CSC) and pledged to reduce our GHG emissions substantially by the year 2030. In so doing it has joined 471 communities across our state committed to a similar goal. To achieve this goal, we created a Taskforce chaired by Professor James Hays, consisting of: Jane Garofano, Peter Gmelch, Diana Larson, Schuyler Neuhauser, Marley Vaught, Building Inspector John Ledwith, Village Trustee Josh Scherer, and Deputy Town Supervisor Michele Lindsay.

Working with the Town’s CSC Task Force, chaired by Michele Lindsay, we are investigating a way to place our entire community on electricity produced by renewable sources of energy. This program, called Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), allows several communities to bargain with renewable energy suppliers for cost-effective multi-year electricity contracts. If adopted, any resident wanting to receive their electricity another way can opt-out of the program at any time. The electricity would continue to be delivered and billed by Orange and Rockland Utilities.
