Hosted in Tuxedo Park: Remembering Stephen Siller at the 4th Annual Tunnel to Towers Event

Patrick & Nancy Bourke organized the 4th Annual independent Tunnel to Towers Walk/Run/Bike event held in the picturesque Tuxedo Park on Saturday, September 9, and drew an impressive crowd as the community came together to pay tribute to the heroic sacrifice of NYFD firefighter Stephen Siller. On that fateful September 11, 2001, Stephen Siller courageously gave his life to save others, a selfless act that continues to inspire us all.

Participants in the event took on a meaningful challenge that echoed Siller's heroic journey. They ran or walked two laps around the serene Wee Wah, symbolizing the distance Stephen Siller traversed through the tunnel to reach the World Trade Center. Bikers, demonstrating their dedication to the cause, completed 9.11 miles by riding five laps around the course.

This year's event saw a notable increase in participation, with 30 individuals joining the cause, compared to 25 last year. Remarkably, 20 of these participants were proud residents of Tuxedo Park, showing their strong community spirit. The diverse participants included two bicycle riders, five runners, and an impressive 23 walkers. The day's proceedings commenced with solemn opening ceremonies, setting the tone for the event. The walkers embarked on their journey around 10:10 a.m., followed by the rest of the participants at 10:20 a.m.

This year's Tunnel to Towers event in Tuxedo Park was a physical challenge and a powerful symbol of unity, remembrance, and community support. It honored the memory of Stephen Siller in a way that truly reflects his heroic spirit and the values he held dear.
