The Mayor announces the gatehouse operations

Gatehouse

Posted August 12, 2021
I am pleased to tell you that the new gatehouse (a.k.a. the Booth) will be operational before the end of next week, and we hope to install the exterior door, corner stone columns, and decorative bollard covers in 30-days.

First, you may have noticed the ongoing improvements at our main gate area, such as:

  • the new gatehouse design pays homage to architect Bruce Price's design of the Lodge and Keep adhering to our National Historic Registration Designation (see the file at the bottom of page)
  • opened views to the August Brook Stream, which runs under the stone archway underpinning the Lodge and along the southern edge of its front lawn
  • repainting the original iron gate and restoring the lanterns
  • replanting the garden bed and stone retaining wall on the right exiting the Park
  • mulching and seeding in and around the American Beech tree planted on Arbor Day 2016 and along the Brook

There are more improvements under consideration, and we welcome your suggestions.

To set expectations, the day we open the gatehouse, we are transferring high-tech equipment from its current location and may experience kinks in the system. Further, you may experience some delays entering the Park because the Police Department will be facing drivers. Please be patient with us as we settle into a routine. Also of interest, at this Wednesday's Board meeting, we will be discussing an automatic gate opening system for residents similar to an E-ZPass system.

The dedication ceremony for the gatehouse for donors will take place in September.

Please do not hesitate to contact our Chief of Police, Dave Conklin, with suggestions during this transition to better security and safety for our community at [email protected] or the Suggestion Box on the new Village Website.
