Today at 4:28 p.m. - Follow-up to this mornings announcement below:

As a follow-up to this morning’s information, please see the following substitute bus plan for this weekend and share it with your constituents.

Starting at 11 p.m. tonight, Friday, August 6, through Sunday evening, August 8, substitute busing will replace train service on the Port Jervis Line due to emergency bridge work east of Harriman by the New York State Thruway Authority.

Port Jervis Line tickets will also be honored on the Hudson Line.

Substitute buses will operate at all stations between Port Jervis and Sloatsburg stations except Otisville and Salisbury Mills.

Inbound Service to Hoboken/Penn Station

On Saturday, busing will begin with the 4:41 a.m. train from Port Jervis station and continue through Sunday. Buses will depart stations 10 - 20 minutes earlier than scheduled train times and travel to  Ramsey/Rt. 17 station, where customers will transfer to trains. Otisville & Salisbury Mills customers should go to the closet available station for shuttle bus service to the train at Ramsey/Rt.17.

A local bus will also operate from Port Jervis station to Ramsey/Route 17 station making all stops, including Otisville and Salisbury Mills, and will connect at Ramsey/Route 17 with the next available NJ TRANSIT train. The first local bus will depart Port Jervis station at 4:41 a.m. and approximately every 2-3 hours all day. This bus is intended primarily for customers needing to travel between intermediate stations on the Port Jervis Line, not for customers connecting with NJ TRANSIT trains at Ramsey/Route 17 station. There is no guarantee that the local bus will connect to specific NJ TRANSIT trains at Ramsey/Route 17 station.

Outbound Service to Port Jervis

On Friday, busing will begin with the 9:58 pm train from Hoboken and continue through Sunday. Outbound buses will depart Ramsey/Rt. 17 station approximately five minutes after the connecting train arrives. Substitute buses will operate at all stations between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis except Salisbury Mills and Otisville.

Beginning Saturday, a local bus will also operate from Ramsey/Route 17 station to Port Jervis station making all stops, including Salisbury Mills and Otisville. The first bus will depart Ramsey/Route 17 at 10:39 a.m. and approximately every 2-3 hours all day. This bus is intended primarily for customers needing to travel between intermediate stations on the Port Jervis Line, not for customers connecting from NJ TRANSIT trains at Ramsey/Route 17. There is no guarantee that the local bus will connect from specific NJ TRANSIT trains at Ramsey/Route 17.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while important repairs to the bridge are made.

We want to inform you of structural damage to the NYS Thruway Authority overpass at Arden Valley Road which passes over the Port Jervis Line, south of Harriman station.

This condition was discovered yesterday during a routine inspection by the NYSTA and, out of an abundance of caution, the NYSTA recommended suspending train operations under the structure until repairs are completed. NYSTA anticipates emergency repairs will take until Sunday to complete, which would allow for regular Port Jervis train service to resume by Monday morning.

For today, August 6, Port Jervis Line train service will remain suspended between Suffern and Port Jervis stations and Port Jervis Line customers are being advised to seek the following service alternatives:

  • Travel to Suffern or Ramsey/Route 17 stations for NJT service to Hoboken
  • Travel to a Pascack Valley Line station for NJT service to Hoboken
  • Travel to Beacon station via the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge or Tarrytown or Irvington stations via the Mario Cuomo Bridge for Hudson Line service to GCT. NJ TRANSIT tickets are being crossed-honored on the Hudson Line.

In the meantime, Metro-North is working with NJ TRANSIT to secure sufficient buses to enable us to operate substitute bus service between Suffern and Harriman stations beginning Saturday and resume rail service between Harriman and Port Jervis station.
