No property tax hike in Orange County as local economy strengthens

Flush with cash after an economic comeback and a windfall of federal pandemic relief, Orange County lawmakers on Monday slashed the county's planned property-tax increase for next year from $2.5 million to zero.

That cut came from the $136.9 million in total taxes that property owners would have paid in 2022 to support the $827.2 million budget County Executive Steve Neuhaus proposed in late September. With Neuhaus' support, lawmakers voted unanimously to lower his proposed tax levy to $134.4 million, the same amount collected in 2021.
