The Village of Tuxedo Park 2022-2023 Tentative Budget

The Village of Tuxedo Park 2022-2023 Tentative Budget

Posted March 29, 2022
Posted under Official Notices is the 2022-2023 Tentative Budget.

There are several material items that I would like to address as the board begins the process of refining the tentative budget to its final stage by May 1, 2022.

1. The Mayor seeks a competing quote for our village insurance policies. We have been using Marshal & Sterling for years. While we are satisfied with their service, our fiduciary duty is to kick the tires every 10 – 15 years on certain providers such as insurance, waste removal, etc. We have not received quotes yet; therefore, we have used a plug number in the General Fund with a 20% increase over last year.

2. The board is launching the sewer fund on June 1, 2022, at the start of our fiscal year. The water & sewer municipal rate consultant we have hired to establish rate rents has not completed his work, and the board has not determined a rate rent. Therefore, we have used a plug number that covers the O&M of the sewer system. The new rents will be presented to the public and voted on by the board before the May 1, 2022, deadline.

3. The village has several openings in the DPW, Village office, and possibly a part-time Building Inspector and Tax Assessor, which have not been accounted for at this time. The board's hiring decisions may change the expense side of the equation. Employee openings will be discussed and completed before the May 1, 2022, deadline. Similarly, the board has not had the opportunity to meet in an executive session and finalize employee compensation for the new fiscal year.

4. Several village buildings need attention. For example, the Lodge at the main gate needs a new roof to stop the leaks, and we need to repair the water damage inside; they would also benefit from air conditioning. Price quotes and bids are not in the tentative budget yet. Nor has the board determined the payment method at this time.

The tentative budget is just that – a work in progress. The number of notes and open questions related to the line items will be resolved by the board in April with the public in attendance.

I want to extend my appreciation to Tinka, John, Elizabeth, and the village accountant.
