A Winter Message From The Head of School

A Winter Message From The Head of School

Posted December 12, 2022

Dear Friends,

We have enjoyed this fall at Tuxedo Park School.  Who could not?  It’s a breathtaking season in this part of the world, made livelier by children and their teachers and by lots of happy activity as the school returns to life.

When you bustle your way through so much, you tend to forget what you’ve just done and look ahead to what you have to do next.  Here’s a quick and selective review.

We all returned to normal life, unmasked, etc., in full force.  We welcomed our families back into Blairhame, offering them the following:

  • a congenial parent-faculty dinner, during which we heard from trustees and alumni what makes TPS special
  • a Saturday morning Fun Run and cookout
  • three Family Fridays, during which parents could participate in their children’s classes
  • a spirited fall athletic season, with the soccer team sporting a nifty 6-2 record
  • assemblies, musical recitals, and a play
  • an evening harvest festival for the primary school, complete with square dancing, a cider press, and lots of s'mores
  • a very social Friday evening for the middle and upper schools (plus drinks in the pink house for grownups free from chaperoning duty)
  • our first all-school Hike-A-Thon along six miles of trails, which raised money for our partner, The Aale School in Nepal
  • a brand-new website, lovely to look at and easy to use
  • and, at last, a design for a Bear that we can call our own

Needless to say, there is also a lot of teaching and learning going on.  Our young students learn how to work hard and how to work intelligently.  Most important, they learn to like what they do and enjoy doing it all with their friends beside them.  No more Zoom for them!

Here are the sixth graders, fresh off the bus from their trip to New York to medieval art at the Cloisters Museum. With them comes a blast of fresh air, learning, and fun. Just another day in the life of Tuxedo Park School.

All good wishes to you all for a well-deserved winter break.  On to 2023!
