COVID-19 cases slowly rise again in Orange County

GOSHEN - COVID-19 cases slowly rise again in Orange County as the vaccination pace remains sluggish

Just two weeks ago, Orange County had a single newly confirmed case of COVID-19 in one day and appeared ready to drop to zero for the first time in 17 months.

But then daily cases climbed into the teens and reached 39 and 38 on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, respectively, according to state Department of Health data. And by Thursday, county health officials had logged 122 active coronavirus cases across the county, with 38 in Middletown and 22 in Warwick.

"We are seeing a very slow but very steady uptick in cases, unfortunately," Dr. Irina Gelman, the county's health commissioner, told lawmakers on Tuesday...

By contrast, the percentages of fully vaccinated residents elsewhere in the county run as high as 93% in the Tuxedo Park ZIP code, 65% in Central Valley, and 63% in Greenwood Lake and Cornwall-on-Hudson.
